Animal Health and Welfare Infrastructure Grant for Farmers

Cattle farmers in England may be eligible for a grant of between £15,000 – £500,000 under the Animal Health and Welfare Infrastructure Grant for Farmers.

Initially, the grant will be available for cattle farmers to help co-fund new and upgraded calf housing. In time, the grant will be extended to include adult cattle, pig and poultry housing.

Calf Housing for Health and Welfare Grant

You can apply for the grant if;

1) you’re currently a cattle farmer living in England, or

2) you either own the land you’re building on or have a tenancy agreement for the land until five years after the project is complete.

This grant provides an opportunity to fund changes on your farm that will improve productivity and future proof your calf housing.

Better housing provides a comfortable temperature, protection from humidity and drafts, as well as allowing social interaction between animals. These changes are positive for the animals, and the increase in productivity will benefit you too. Upgrading or building new calf housing with an ambient environment will help to produce healthier calves that are likely to be more resilient and productive in later life.

The application is a 3 stage process and you will be required to discuss your project with a vet and include a letter of confirmation with your full application. This is to make sure that the changes funded by the grant reflect the specific needs of the calves on your farm. Please visit the Government website for full guidance on how to apply for a Calf Housing and Welfare Grant.
